All of us are Brothers and Sisters in Christ, all of us are called to wash the others feet. This includes various areas in community life: serving at the table, washing dishes, cleaning the convent, taking care of anothers duty while he is gone.... 
But it also includes larger tasks, where more physical effort is required, like moving people in need, construction and repairs on convents, or volunteering to help with some physical work in churches or other buildings of the Church.
We are trying to do all these works in the spirit of joy and service, but it is an effort of constant conversion, as we strive to be really the others servant, and not to dominate and “lord it over them...”.
Our community life calls us to be truly christian, or better, to become truly like Christ, who came to serve and not to be served. This is why we call our life in community the biggest means of sanctification. “I did "not come to be ministered unto, but to minister," says the Lord. Let those who are set above others glory in this superiority only as much as if they had been deputed to wash the feet of the brothers; and if they are more perturbed by the loss of their superiorship than they would be by losing the office of washing feet, so much the more do they lay up treasures to the peril of their own soul.” (Admonitions of St. Francis, Admonition Nr. 4) Br.
